Lake Forest, Orange County
Lake Forest was known as El Toro until residents voted to incorporate under the new name in 1991. The forest is real: rancher Dwight Whiting planted hundreds of acres of eucalyptus here in the early 1900s, hoping to sell the lumber. Developers later built neighborhoods among the trees and added two man-made lakes, which gave the community its name.
